A makeup artist contract is a formal agreement that outlines what beauty services will be provided for a client. It covers the event date, location, payment terms, and policies to ensure the artist’s work and the client’s expectations are protected.
Makeup artists are often hired for major events like weddings, proms, and special occasions, meaning that both the client and artist should have a clear expectation of what to expect. This means that whether you’re the artist or client, you’ll want to have a contract in place.
When it comes to makeup artist services, be sure to set expectations for how long the application will take from start to finish, itemize your billing, and share what products are going to be used. When there are lots of people involved at events like weddings or parties, you want to be sure your services are clear. Oftentimes, emotions and tensions can run high in these situations, so having a written agreement is crucial.
Whether it’s for a wedding, birthday, photoshoot or high school dance, these aspects of the contract should be clear and defined.
In addition the the general scope of work and budget, be extra thorough in your makeup artist contract by including the following:
As a makeup artist, you’re often in a high-paced environment. Be sure to outline your payment terms, so on the day of your service, you’re not left forgotten and unpaid.
Ask for a deposit upfront to ensure your preparation and travel time is taken care of at minimum. This also helps to ensure your client is serious about the service. When it comes to both the deposit and the payment for services, let the client know If you prefer cash, check or online payment services like PayPal or Venmo. Also make it clear when you expect to be paid, whether that’s before or directly following the service.
